Ce'Aira Brown Runs Personal Best to Win 800 Meters in Karlstad, Sweden

By Adam Kopet

Ce'Aira Brown earned a personal best in her 800-meter win at the Folksam Grand Prix in Karlstad, Sweden. She ran 1:58.01, No. 8 in the world this year, to win by more than two seconds over fellow American Laura Roesler (2:00.63).

RESULTS

For Brown, it was the second personal best she has run in four days, helping her elevate to the No. 17 performer in American history. She previously secured victory Sunday in the London Diamond League 800 in 1:58.57.

The men's pole vault featured two recent high school graduates. Armand "Mondo" Duplantis, a Lafayette LA graduate and LSU signee, won with a clearance of 19-0.25 (5.80m). He raised the bar to 19-5.75 (5.94m), but could not clear what would have been an improvement on his own World U-20 record.

Davis Senior CA graduate Sondre Guttormsen, a UCLA signee, finished third in the pole vault with a personal-best 18-4.50 (5.60m), improving on his own state record and making him equal to the No. 3 all-time prep performer. Guttormsen also improved on his own Norwegian U-20 record and is equal to the No. 29 World U-20 performer in history.

Duplantis and Guttormsen, equal to the No. 3 World U-20 performer this year, are both scheduled to compete Aug. 10 at the European Outdoor Championships in Berlin.
